How do I apply for a study permit?
You should apply for a study permit before coming to Canada. Make sure you have a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution in Canada before you apply.
You should apply online for a study permit. If you can’t apply online because of a disability or because there’s a problem with the online application, you can apply on paper.
If you’re currently a visitor in Canada
Most people can’t apply for a study permit from within Canada. If you want to apply for a study permit, you must
- leave the country, and
- follow the instructions to apply from outside Canada
Extend your study permit or restore your status
If you want to keep studying in Canada, you need to apply for a study permit extension before your study permit expires.
If you haven’t extended your study permit and you’re not eligible to restore your status as a student, you must leave Canada.
If you have a valid work permit in Canada, you may also be able to study. Find out more about working and studying in Canada.
